Operating Environment

Print contrast control allows the operator to adjust print darkness.
Achieving optimum print quality is dependent upon paper quality.
Supplies: The IBM InfoPrint 4000 IR3/IR4 utilize InfoPrint 4000/3900 toner and developer mix. The remaining supplies are also the same as the InfoPrint 4000 IR1/IR2 Printing System.
Duty Cycle: The IBM InfoPrint 4000 IR3/IR4 has the following monthly printing capacities.

Paper Handling

Input Continuous Forms: The InfoPrint 4000-IR3/IR4 Printers have a paper supply capacity of 16 inches (406 mm) of fanfold paper.

Installing special feature number 4710 (one comes standard on each engine) provides the attachment for high-capacity, roll-feed devices that will enable the customer to fully utilize the high-productivity capabilities of the IBM InfoPrint 4000 family. Such roll-feed input devices enable continuous printing of several hours between paper loading.

There is a standard splicing station to minimize waste and increase operator efficiency.

Output Continuous Forms: The IBM InfoPrint 4000-IR3/IR4 Printers are provided with a stacker on each engine with a maximum paper capacity of up to 14 inches (356 mm) in height. The actual height may be operator adjusted to limit the weight of the output stack of paper. The stacker can stack paper with lengths between 7 and 14 inches (178 to 356 mm).

The ability to attach post-processing equipment (feature numbers 4710 and 4720) allows additional input and output capabilities.

Paper Sizes: The InfoPrint 4000-IR3/IR4 paper sizes are:

  • Width:
    • 9 to 18 inches (229 to 457 mm; continuously variable) in duplex
9 to 18 inches (229 to 457 mm; continuously variable) in simplex
The maximum print width is 17 inches (432 mm).
  • Length:
    • 3* to 25 inches (75 to 625 mm) lengths (in 1/3 and 1/2 inch increments)
7* to 14 inches (178 to 350 mm) are supported by the standard stacker
      3* to 25** inches (75 to 625 mm) with post-processing
14 to 25** inches (350 to 625 mm) lengths may be printed but cannot be stacked with the standard stacker.
When printing 14 to 25 inch form length, suitable post-processing equipment is recommended.

* Lengths less than 7 inches (178 mm) are folded in multiples by the forms supplier and the stacker. (For example, forms 3.5 inches in length may be folded every 7 inches.) ** There are limitations on the maximum page size that can be addressed by an application program. If you have a requirement for a page larger than 22.7 inches, it is recommended you contact your IBM representative or call Techline at 888-426-5525 for a review of the application.

Paper Weights: The InfoPrint 4000-IR3/IR4 printers support the following paper weights:

  • 16 to 28 pound (60 to 105 g/m2) bond in duplex mode
  • 16 to 28 pound (60 to 105 g/m2) bond in simplex and dual simplex mode
