Kerning Data Systems, Inc. Print version Founded in 1986, the company is a leading manufacturer of high-speed MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) printers. Kerning Data Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets a line of printing products for use in the financial industry. The products include high-speed impact and non-impact check personalization systems, printing application control software and custom hammerbanks and encoding modules for high-speed amount encoding of individual checks. The Company's principal MICR customers are security printers, large forms producers, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) that package Kerning components into their own systems. Kerning has installed printers in over 60 countries worldwide. Since 1986, the Company has designed and built custom MICR components for equipment used in all of the major check processing OEM's including: IBM, NCR, Unisys, Standard Register, Check Technology Corporation, Delphax Corporation , Recognition Equipment Inc., Banctec Corporation, and Troy Systems. The Company is headquartered in Chatsworth, California, and manufactures critical components through an affiliate company, Hammer Kft., in Szekesfehervar, Hungary.
